Sixteen crew members are feared dead after a small tanker, Prestige Falcon, capsized off the coast of Oman on Monday. The vessel, which had departed from Dubai and was en route to Aden, Yemen, was carrying 13 Indian and three Sri Lankan crew members.
Despite extensive search and rescue efforts, authorities have not yet located any of the crew. The tanker, flagged by Comoros, has a capacity of 7,056 deadweight tons (dwt) and was 17 years old.
Like clockwork: Why vessel turnaround times are so important
There is no evidence to suggest that the tanker was involved in the ongoing military conflict led by the Houthis against merchant shipping in the region.
