Japan’s top lines and yards join forces to develop liquefied carbon dioxide carrier designs
Japan's Leading Shipping Lines and Shipbuilders Collaborate on LCO2 Carrier Standards
The goal of this study is to create standard standards and designs for liquefied carbon dioxide (LCO2) carriers. Leading shipbuilders and shipping lines in Japan are working together on this project. Leading shipbuilders Mitsubishi Shipbuilding, Imabari Shipbuilding, Japan Marine United, and Nihon Shipyard are among the enterprises engaged, along with Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K Line), Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL), and Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK).
This collaborative endeavour is motivated by the projected increase in demand for LCO2 carriers, particularly given that several Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) projects in Japan necessitate the sea transportation of CO2 to storage locations. The goal of the study is to guarantee that Japan can construct and deliver these specialised carriers with reliability. These carriers are critical to the CCS value chain and to increasing the sector’s economic efficiency. The partnership represents a major advancement in Japan’s capacity to provide sustainable marine solutions.
