MOL Becomes 1st Japanese Board Member of Book and Claim Community
Environmental Initiative Aims to Decarbonize International Logistics
TOKYO – Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL), led by President & CEO Takeshi Hashimoto, has made an important move in the fight against climate change. MOL is now the first Japanese company to join the Book and Claim Community (BCC), a global group focused on reducing carbon emissions in international shipping.
The BCC is working on a special system called “Book and Claim” to help cut down emissions from shipping. This system helps organizations and companies worldwide to share information and work together towards a greener future. MOL has been a leader in making shipping more environmentally friendly and has its own project called “Carbon Inset,” which turns reductions in greenhouse gases into tradable tokens. These efforts made MOL a great fit for the BCC.

MOL is joining other big names on the BCC board, including Meta, NORDEN, and UPS. They are teaming up with founding members like Amazon, Deloitte, DHL Group, Microsoft, Shell, and World Energy. Together, they will use their knowledge and energy to push for cleaner international logistics.
MOL will use its experience in green shipping to help the BCC’s mission. The company’s focus on “Sustainability Issues” is part of its plan for growth and environmental responsibility. MOL aims to solve environmental challenges as part of its “MOL Sustainability Plan.”
MOL’s corporate mission is “From the blue oceans, we sustain people’s lives and ensure a prosperous future.” With this new role in the BCC, MOL will continue to work towards making shipping more sustainable and valuable for everyone involved, while growing globally.
