Port Of Liverpool Welcomes The UK’s Largest Whole Maize Vessel

Port of Liverpool Welcomes UK's Largest Feed Maize Shipment

The Port of Liverpool, part of Peel Ports Group, has received the largest shipment of feed maize ever brought into the UK. This shows how important the port is in helping farmers and supporting the nation’s agricultural sector.

The bulk carrier, Lowlands Future, arrived from the East Coast of the United States carrying 55,000 tonnes of maize. This huge amount of maize will be used to feed animals on farms, highlighting how important the Port of Liverpool is in the UK’s food supply chain.

ADM Agriculture, a global leader in animal nutrition, handled the import of the maize. The maize will be stored at ADM’s special facilities at the port before being sent to farms across the region.

Phil Hall, Mersey Port Director at Peel Ports Group, said, “This shipment shows that our port can manage large imports that are essential for the country’s food supply chain. Our partnership with ADM Agriculture and our modern facilities have allowed us to handle this large amount, making Liverpool a key gateway for agricultural goods.”

He also added, “We are continuing to invest in our port, like our new £28 million dry bulk facility at Alexandra Dock, to improve the services we offer to the agricultural supply chain.”

Albert Linney, a Senior Trader at ADM Agriculture, explained that this year has been tough for UK farmers. The wheat crop was about 25% smaller compared to last year. Because of this, imported maize has become an important part of animal feed for many farmers.

In partnership with Peel Ports, ADM has completed the largest single maize shipment ever brought into the UK. The Lowlands Future ship carried 55,000 tonnes of maize, making this delivery a big success. Linney thanked both the Peel Ports Group and ADM teams for making the shipment possible.

The delivery of maize from the Lowlands Future is a big win for the UK’s agricultural sector, helping to keep farms supplied and ensuring food security. The Port of Liverpool continues to be a vital hub for bringing in and distributing agricultural products, showing its importance in international trade.
