GTT to Design Tanks for New LNG Bunkering Vessel Ordered by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding

Ibaizabal Group and TotalEnergies Team Up for a New LNG Bunkering Vessel with GTT's Advanced Technology

GTT Receives New Order from Hudong-Zhonghua to Design LNG Vessel Tanks

GTT (Gaztransport & Technigaz), a leader in designing storage systems for liquefied gases, has secured a major order from Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. This Chinese shipyard is building a brand-new LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) bunkering vessel with a capacity of 18,600 m³, and GTT will handle the vessel’s tank design.

The ship, ordered by Ondimar Transportes Marítimos (part of the Ibaizabal Group), will be chartered by TotalEnergies, one of the biggest energy companies in the world. This marks the first time Ondimar will operate a vessel equipped with GTT’s advanced tank system.

Advanced Membrane System for Better Performance

The new LNG vessel will feature Mark III Flex membrane technology, which is known for its efficiency and performance. This system, developed by GTT, offers a daily Boil-Off rate (BOR) of just 0.16%. The low BOR ensures that only a tiny amount of the LNG evaporates each day, making the vessel more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly. This improvement will also help cut carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions, supporting the maritime industry’s move toward cleaner energy sources.

In comparison to two earlier vessels, Gas Agility and Gas Vitality, both of which are chartered by TotalEnergies, the new LNG bunkering vessel promises even better performance and reduced emissions.

Delivery Scheduled for 2026

The LNG bunkering vessel will measure 135.9 meters in length and 24.5 meters in width. Construction is already underway at Hudong-Zhonghua’s shipyard, with the delivery date set for the end of 2026.

Partnership Comments

Jean-Baptiste Choimet, CEO of GTT, expressed his excitement about the new project:

“We are proud to receive this order, showing the trust that our partners place in GTT’s technology. This partnership with the Ibaizabal Group highlights the value and versatility of our Mark III Flex membrane system, helping to advance the maritime industry toward cleaner energy.”

Jorge Zickermann, CEO of Ibaizabal Group, also shared his enthusiasm:

“Being selected for this project aligns perfectly with our mission to decarbonize maritime transport. We are excited to work with GTT and TotalEnergies, two leaders in the LNG sector, and strengthen our long-term relationship with TotalEnergies.”
