ABB Opens New $100 Million Facility in Wisconsin to Boost U.S. Production and Sustainability

ABB’s New Facility Brings Growth, Innovation, and Sustainability to the U.S.

ABB, a global leader in electrification and automation, has opened a new $100 million campus in New Berlin, Wisconsin, to increase U.S. production capacity for electric drives. The facility will help ABB support Build America Buy America Act (BABAA) requirements while promoting sustainable practices.

At a ribbon-cutting ceremony, employees, government officials, education leaders, and media gathered to celebrate the first phase of the facility’s opening. This expansion will play a key role in ABB’s efforts to serve the growing U.S. market, the company’s largest.

Supporting Growth and Sustainability

Brandon Spencer, President of ABB’s Motion Business Area, emphasized the importance of the U.S. market for ABB. He explained that this modern facility will help the company stay close to customers while strengthening local supply chains.

“Investing in this new manufacturing plant allows us to tap into a skilled workforce, serve customers better, and promote sustainable solutions,” said Spencer.

ABB’s electric drive systems are used across various sectors, including industrial, transportation, energy, and construction industries. With the growing need for solutions that reduce carbon emissions, ABB is providing technology that helps companies worldwide optimize energy use and lower emissions.

“We are committed to helping customers compete globally while reducing their carbon footprint,” added Tuomo Hoysniemi, President of ABB’s U.S. Motion Business Area and Global Drive Products Division.

Sustainability at the Heart of the Design

The New Berlin campus reflects ABB’s commitment to sustainability. The company has integrated geothermal heating systems, solar power, and modern HVAC technologies to reduce energy usage by over 45% and eliminate the need for natural gas. These features also align with ABB’s plan to achieve its 2030 sustainability goals.

With these innovations, the company is not only supporting customers in their efforts to decarbonize operations but also ensuring its own facilities operate more cleanly and efficiently.

Technology and Innovation for the Future

The new ABB campus will feature a state-of-the-art Customer Experience Center and Innovation Lab, designed to enhance customer support with advanced digital tools. The facility also includes a warehouse distribution center to reduce transportation costs and lower emissions.

Over 700 employees will work at the New Berlin site, with plans to hire 100 more workers over the next three years. ABB is partnering with educational institutions to prepare a future-ready workforce and promote STEM education.

“We believe business, government, and education must work together to prepare the next generation of engineers and technicians,” said Kelly Kling, Drives Site Leader and Head of Finance for ABB’s U.S. Motion Business.

A Sustainable Future with ABB

With more than 105,000 employees worldwide and over 140 years of industry experience, ABB is leading the way in automation and electrification. The company is committed to using engineering expertise and digital solutions to create more efficient ways to power, move, and manufacture goods.

The New Berlin facility represents ABB’s continued effort to strengthen U.S. infrastructure and deliver cleaner, smarter technologies to its customers. This investment in sustainable manufacturing will position ABB to meet the needs of a changing world while driving economic growth in the United States.
