MOL Launches New Delivery Service for Overseas Residents

Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) has introduced a new business-to-consumer (B2C) service called MOL CART. This platform offers international delivery and forwarding services specifically for overseas residents. It also provides temporary storage for goods purchased from Japanese online shopping sites. This initiative marks a significant step in MOL’s ongoing efforts to diversify its business operations.

Innovative Services and Strategic Expansion

MOL CART aims to simplify the process of delivering Japanese products to customers around the world. The service promises to deliver a wide range of items safely and efficiently. Additionally, it features virtual warehousing functions that allow customers to manage their storage needs independently. This flexibility is designed to meet various logistical requirements, making it a highly convenient option for users.

The development of the MOL CART platform involved collaboration with a tech start-up founded by former Sony engineers. Their expertise in technology, particularly in PlayStation development, has contributed to creating a user-friendly interface and robust logistics capabilities. This partnership highlights MOL’s commitment to leveraging technology to enhance its services.

In April 2023, MOL established its Wellbeing & Lifestyle Business Division. This division focuses on enhancing the well-being and lifestyles of all stakeholders through diverse business ventures. These ventures include real estate, cruise ships, and ferries, expanding beyond traditional shipping. By diversifying its offerings, MOL aims to create new value that addresses the evolving needs of society. MOL CART exemplifies this strategy by maximizing customer synergies and providing tailored solutions.

Recently, MOL has also made strategic moves in other areas. Last week, the company acquired a majority stake in NODE, a Japanese human resources consulting firm. Additionally, MOL has partnered with trading house Marubeni to form a joint venture called Marubeni MOL Forests. This venture focuses on creating, purchasing, selling, and retiring nature-based carbon removal credits, further demonstrating MOL’s commitment to sustainability and innovation.
