Asso.subsea Orders New Cable Layer Vessel

Asso.subsea, a Greece-based offshore contractor, has placed an order for a state-of-the-art shallow-water cable layer with China Merchants Heavy Industry. This new vessel will enhance Asso.subsea’s capabilities in underwater cable installation and maintenance, crucial for the growing offshore energy sector. The delivery of this advanced vessel is anticipated in 2027.

Specifications and Features of the New Cable Layer

The new cable layer will measure 175 meters in length and 41.8 meters in width, making it suitable for shallow-water and bottom-sitting operations. Designed by China Merchants Industry, the vessel will be constructed at the China Merchants Industry Mazhou Island Base. It will feature a DP-2 dynamic positioning system, ensuring precise maneuverability during operations.

One of the standout features of this cable layer is its capacity to lay three cables simultaneously. This capability is supported by two powerful rotating cable reels, one with a capacity of 12,000 tonnes and another with 4,000 tonnes. This design will significantly improve operational efficiency, allowing for quicker project completion.

Additionally, the vessel will accommodate up to 120 crew members, ensuring a well-staffed operation. In line with environmental sustainability goals, the cable layer is also methanol-ready, enabling it to operate using carbon-neutral technology. This feature reflects the industry’s shift towards greener practices in marine operations. Overall, the new cable layer represents a significant investment in modern maritime technology, positioning Asso.subsea for future growth in the offshore sector.
