Lauritzen Bulkers sources small biofuel cargo to meet FuelEU requirements for
Lauritzen Bulkers, a Danish operator, has recently made a significant move towards sustainable shipping by bunkering a time-chartered vessel with biofuel. This step showcases the company’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and embracing eco-friendly practices in the maritime industry.
Embracing Biofuel for Sustainable Shipping:
Lauritzen Bulkers recently refuelled an unnamed bulker with very low-sulphur fuel oil B20 biofuel in Gibraltar. This biofuel bunkering took place on 9th February, marking a milestone for the company’s sustainability efforts. The vessel was preparing for a voyage from Chittagong, Bangladesh to Otranto, Italy, highlighting the global reach of this eco-friendly initiative.
The biofuel used for bunkering was supplied by Peninsula Petroleum, a trusted provider in the industry. The fuel was bunkered by the 9,100-dwt tanker Hercules Sky, which was built in 2021. This collaboration between Lauritzen Bulkers and Peninsula Petroleum showcases the importance of partnerships in driving sustainable practices within the shipping sector.
By opting for biofuel bunkering, Lauritzen Bulkers is not only meeting regulatory requirements but also setting a precedent for sustainable shipping practices. The use of biofuels helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promotes a cleaner environment for future generations. This initiative aligns with the global push towards decarbonization and demonstrates the company’s proactive approach towards environmental stewardship.
