Corvus Energy’s Dolphin Battery Gains Lloyd’s Approval

Corvus Energy has announced a significant achievement with the receipt of Type Approval from Lloyd’s Register (LR) for its Dolphin NxtGen Energy marine battery system. This approval confirms that the innovative energy storage system meets the highest industry standards for safety and compliance, as set by one of the leading maritime classification societies. The Dolphin NxtGen Energy system is designed to enhance operational efficiency while ensuring safety in marine applications.

Advanced Safety Features and Design

The Dolphin NxtGen Energy system boasts exceptional safety features that exceed both class and flag requirements. Drawing on the technology of the Corvus Orca Energy Storage System (ESS), which is the most widely used marine battery globally, the Dolphin model incorporates advanced safety measures. These include passive single-cell Thermal Runaway (TR) isolation and a TR gas exhaust system, which are critical for preventing potential hazards associated with battery operation.

In addition to its safety capabilities, the Dolphin NxtGen Energy system is characterized by its lightweight construction and high energy density. This innovative modular design allows for optimal space and weight efficiency, making it suitable for a variety of vessel designs. Whether for small or large battery installations, the system is engineered to minimize weight while maximizing available space, a crucial factor in marine engineering.

Corvus Energy has also integrated an advanced Battery Management System (BMS) and proprietary digital solutions into the Dolphin NxtGen Energy system. These features include continuous remote monitoring and digital twin technology, which collectively enhance operational safety throughout the battery’s lifecycle. This comprehensive approach ensures that the system not only meets but exceeds the expectations of modern maritime operations.

A Milestone for Clean Energy Solutions

The Type Approval from Lloyd’s Register marks a significant milestone for Corvus Energy. CEO Fredrik Witte expressed his satisfaction with this achievement, stating, “We are very pleased that the Dolphin NxtGen Energy battery system has now also received type approval from LR, confirming that it meets the high safety standards required in the maritime industry.” He emphasized the importance of this approval in advancing the company’s mission to promote clean energy solutions in maritime applications.

In addition to securing LR Type Approval, Corvus Energy is also pursuing certifications from other maritime classification societies, including Bureau Veritas and DNV. This proactive approach underscores the company’s commitment to expanding the adoption of hybrid and electric solutions across various segments of the maritime industry. As the demand for sustainable energy solutions grows, Corvus Energy is positioning itself at the forefront of this transition, paving the way for a cleaner future in marine transportation.
