Aranui Cruises expands fleet with new ship

Aranui Cruises Expands Fleet with New Vessel

Aranui Cruises has unveiled plans to enhance its fleet with the construction of a second passenger-freighter ship, the Aranoa, currently being built at the Huanghai Shipbuilding facility in Shandong, China. Set to launch in 2027, the 116-meter vessel will offer unique itineraries to the remote Austral Islands in French Polynesia, accommodating nearly 200 guests while also transporting cargo. This new addition marks a significant step for the company as it continues to promote sustainable tourism in the region.

Introducing the Aranoa: A Sustainable Adventure

The Aranoa is designed as a mixed passenger-freighter vessel, similar to its predecessor, the Aranui 5. It will feature modern amenities aimed at ensuring passenger comfort while minimizing environmental impact. The ship will host 198 passengers across 93 cabins, with 62 cabins offering private balconies. Guests can enjoy a variety of facilities, including two restaurants, two bars, two spa pools, a boutique, a health spa, a fitness center, and even a tattoo salon, which aligns with Aranui’s innovative approach to onboard experiences.

While the Aranui 5 continues to operate in the northern Marquesas Islands, the Aranoa will venture south to the less-explored Austral Islands. This strategic move aims to foster inclusive tourism by collaborating with local communities to create job opportunities and promote economic growth. The cruise line intends to maintain a sustainable tourism model, ensuring that the influx of visitors is gradual and beneficial to the archipelago’s residents.

Laurant Wong, Aranui Cruises’ representative for Australia and New Zealand, emphasized the ship’s dual mission: to supply the remote Austral Islands with essential provisions and to provide guests with an opportunity to explore these breathtaking, untouched destinations. The Austral Islands are known for their stunning landscapes and rich cultural heritage, offering unique experiences such as whale watching in Rurutu and the serene beauty of Raivavae, often likened to Bora Bora of the past.

A Commitment to Community and Culture

The launch of the Aranoa signifies a pivotal moment for Aranui Cruises, marking the first time the company will operate more than one ship. This expansion comes shortly after celebrating 40 years of cargo cruising in the Marquesas Islands. The company is not only focused on increasing its fleet but is also dedicated to working closely with remote island communities to create new opportunities while showcasing their vibrant cultures and stunning landscapes to the world.

Wong expressed pride in being granted access to the Austral Islands, highlighting the privilege of offering guests an authentic and culturally rich adventure. The introduction of the Aranoa represents a significant investment in sustainable tourism and a commitment to the economic development of French Polynesia’s remote islands. As Aranui Cruises embarks on this new chapter, it aims to balance tourism with community needs, ensuring that both visitors and residents benefit from this unique experience.
