Vår Energi strikes subsea deal with TechnipFMC for Gjøa area
Vår Energi Partners with TechnipFMC for North Sea Projects

Norway’s Vår Energi has announced a significant collaboration with TechnipFMC’s Norwegian division to advance subsea development projects in the Gjøa area of the North Sea. This five-year agreement, which may be extended, aims to streamline the execution of subsea production systems and associated infrastructure for three key discoveries: Gjøa Nord, Cerisa, and Ofelia. Collectively, these sites are estimated to hold up to 110 million barrels of oil equivalent (boe).
Strategic Development Plans for Gjøa Discoveries
The collaboration between Vår Energi and TechnipFMC focuses on the integrated execution of essential components for subsea development, including umbilicals, risers, and flowlines. The Gjøa Nord, Cerisa, and Ofelia discoveries are poised for coordinated development, which is expected to enhance efficiency in procurement, engineering, drilling, installation, and project management. Vår Energi plans to make an investment decision by 2026, contingent on the partners’ agreement to proceed with the developments.

Torger Rød, COO of Vår Energi, emphasized the importance of this partnership, stating, “Currently, we are maturing the three oil and gas discoveries for a planned subsea development that will be tied back to the Gjøa platform. Through the agreement with TechnipFMC, the goal is to achieve faster and more competitive development.”
The Gjøa Nord licence includes partners such as Petoro, Harbour Energy, and OKEA, while Harbour Energy also collaborates on the Ofelia licence alongside Pandion, DNO, and Aker BP. Vår Energi’s partners in the Cerisa licence include Orlen, INPEX, and Sval Energi. This strategic alliance is set to pave the way for significant advancements in Norway’s energy sector.
