New Fortress Energy charters FSRU for LNG terminal in Egypt
New Fortress Energy Expands LNG Operations in Egypt

New Fortress Energy (NFE), a prominent player in the U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) sector, has solidified a significant five-year agreement with the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) for the deployment of the 138,250 cubic meter FSRU, Energos Winter. This strategic move aims to enhance Egypt’s natural gas supply security as the vessel is set to operate at the LNG import terminal in Damietta.
Strengthening Egypt’s Natural Gas Infrastructure
The Energos Winter, a subsidiary of New Fortress Infrastructure, will bolster the existing LNG import capabilities in Egypt, joining the Energos Eskimo which is scheduled to arrive in August. The Energos Eskimo, a larger unit built in 2014 with a capacity of 160,000 cubic meters, will be stationed at EGAS’ terminal in Ain Sokhna for the next decade. This expansion is crucial for Egypt, which is ramping up its LNG import capacity to meet growing energy demands.
Yasseen Mohamed, the executive managing director of EGAS, emphasized the importance of this agreement, stating, “Under this agreement, NFE’s second FSRU, Energos Winter, will provide regasification services at the Damietta terminal, contributing to the security of natural gas supply for the Arab Republic of Egypt over the next five years.” This collaboration underscores NFE’s commitment to supporting Egypt’s energy security amidst increasing regional energy challenges.
