Capital Maritime takes option on HD Hyundai Mipo boxship
Capital Maritime Expands Fleet with New Orders

Capital Maritime, a prominent Greek shipping company, has solidified its commitment to expanding its fleet by placing an order for two additional LNG dual-fuel containerships at HD Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in South Korea. This latest agreement increases the company’s total newbuildings to ten, with a contract value of approximately $113 million. The new vessels are expected to be delivered in July and September of 2027.
Strategic Partnership with HD Hyundai Mipo
The recent order is part of a larger strategy by Capital Maritime to enhance its operational capabilities through a series of new vessels from HD Hyundai Mipo. This South Korean shipyard has become a key partner for the company, which has previously acquired a mix of 1,800 teu and 2,800 teu vessels from the yard. The pricing for these ships has ranged from about $45 million for the smaller vessels to around $55 million for the larger ones.
In addition to the latest order, Capital Maritime, led by Evangelos Marinakis, has also exercised options for two 8,800 teu newbuildings at HD Hyundai Samho. These larger vessels are scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2028, with a total contract value of approximately $140 million. This strategic move underscores Capital Maritime’s commitment to modernizing its fleet and enhancing its competitiveness in the global shipping market.
As the shipping industry continues to evolve, Capital Maritime’s investments in dual-fuel technology and larger vessels position the company to meet future demands while adhering to environmental standards. The ongoing partnership with HD Hyundai Mipo and Samho reflects a proactive approach to fleet expansion and modernization.
