Baker Hughes secures Petrobras contract extension for vessel duo

Baker Hughes Secures Multi-Year Deal with Petrobras

Oilfield services leader Baker Hughes has finalized a multi-year contract with Petrobras, extending the deployment of two advanced stimulation vessels. This agreement, which follows a competitive open tender, includes the provision of essential chemicals and services to enhance oil production. The vessels, Blue Marlin and Blue Orca, are set to play a crucial role in optimizing both brownfield and greenfield projects across various basins in Brazil.

Enhanced Oil Production Capabilities

The Blue Marlin, built in 2008, and the 2013-built Blue Orca are equipped to deliver innovative chemical treatments aimed at stimulating oil wells effectively. These vessels are not only designed for enhancing production but also support the well construction process through essential operations such as gravel pack and frac pack techniques. Their deployment is critical in maximizing output from Brazil’s pre-salt oil fields, which are among the most productive worldwide.

This new contract marks a significant extension of the vessels’ tenure with Petrobras, which has utilized the Blue Marlin since 2008 and the Blue Orca since 2023. Previously scheduled to operate until April 2027, the updated agreement will now keep these vessels engaged until 2032. Amerino Gatti, Executive Vice President of Oilfield Services & Equipment at Baker Hughes, emphasized the vessels’ longstanding history and expertise in Brazil, stating that their capabilities have significantly contributed to the productivity of the country’s oil fields.

With this strategic partnership, Baker Hughes aims to bolster Petrobras’s operations, ensuring that Brazil continues to excel in the global oil market. The combination of advanced technology and experienced crews is expected to enhance overall efficiency and production levels in the years to come.
