Bespoke Research Vessel now under construction for CFCC
New Research Vessel to Enhance Marine Education

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Cape Fear Community College (CFCC) is set to elevate its Marine Technology program with a state-of-the-art 26-meter research vessel currently being constructed at Midship Marine’s Louisiana shipyard. Designed by the renowned global digital shipbuilder Incat Crowther, this vessel will facilitate extensive on-water research and educational activities along the Cape Fear River and up to 100 nautical miles offshore.

The new research vessel features a robust aluminum structure, making it ideal for extended multi-day and week-long educational excursions. This investment reflects CFCC’s commitment to providing students with hands-on learning experiences that are crucial for their success in the maritime industry. Jim Morton, President of CFCC, emphasized the significance of this acquisition, stating, “The purchase of this new research vessel represents an investment in the future of our Marine Technology program.”
