Pakistan Navy Welcomes PNS KHAIBAR in Istanbul

In a significant milestone for Pakistan-Türkiye relations, the commissioning ceremony for the second Pakistan Navy MILGEM class ship, PNS KHAIBAR, took place at the Istanbul Naval Shipyard. The event was attended by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who emphasized the importance of defense collaboration between the two nations. Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf also participated, highlighting the advancements in naval technology and cooperation.

Strengthening Defense Ties

During the ceremony, President Erdogan praised the exemplary brotherly relations between Pakistan and Türkiye. He underscored the necessity for enhanced cooperation in defense production, signaling a commitment to future joint initiatives. Erdogan’s remarks reflect a broader strategy to deepen military ties and foster mutual growth in defense capabilities.

Admiral Naveed Ashraf echoed these sentiments, commending the efforts of ASFAT and the Istanbul Naval Shipyard in the successful planning, design, and construction of the MILGEM ships. He noted that the collaboration not only strengthens the Pakistan Navy but also reinforces the enduring partnership between the two countries. The Admiral highlighted that such bilateral engagements significantly contribute to regional maritime security and stability.

Following the formal commissioning, President Erdogan toured the PNS KHAIBAR, where he received a Guard of Honour and interacted with the ship’s crew. This visit allowed for discussions on maritime security and potential future collaborations between the Pakistan Navy and Turkish Naval Forces, further solidifying their commitment to joint maritime initiatives.

Technological Advancements in Naval Warfare

The MILGEM class ships represent a leap forward in naval technology for Pakistan. Equipped with advanced Command and Control Systems, modern weapons, and sophisticated sensors, these vessels are designed to enhance operational effectiveness in various maritime scenarios. The contract for the construction of four MILGEM class ships was signed in 2018, with two ships built in Türkiye and the remaining two to be constructed in Pakistan.

The commissioning of PNS KHAIBAR marks the successful completion of the construction of both ships in Türkiye, showcasing the capabilities of Turkish shipbuilding and the collaborative spirit of the two nations. As Pakistan continues to modernize its naval fleet, the partnership with Türkiye is poised to play a crucial role in enhancing its maritime defense strategy.
