Rock a bye cruise ship – Delta Collegiate

A Delta College student recently experienced a thrilling seven-day cruise, a gift from her job that allowed her to escape the daily grind of work and motherhood. The adventure began in Miami, where she met her best friend Erica at the airport. Together, they traveled to the cruise port, eager to embark on their journey. Upon boarding the ship, they were greeted by a beautifully decorated stateroom, complete with a towel sculpture and a balcony offering stunning views—at least initially.
However, their excitement quickly turned to disappointment as they pulled back the curtains to reveal an unappealing view of Miami’s port area, marred by construction. Undeterred, the duo decided to focus on enjoying their vacation, starting with food and cocktails. As the ship set sail, they embraced their new identities as carefree travelers, ready to indulge in dancing, dining, and exploring the various ports of call.
Adventures in the Caribbean
The second day of the cruise brought them to Grand Turk, where the warm sun and inviting ocean beckoned. Despite not being the strongest swimmers, the friends eagerly jumped into the water. The high salinity of the ocean made swimming a unique experience, leading to some amusing moments as they struggled to stay afloat. After a refreshing swim, they discovered the ocean’s saltiness had left their lips feeling sore, but they laughed it off, embracing the spirit of adventure.

As the cruise progressed, the weather took a turn on day five. The ship rocked violently due to storms named Imelda and Humberto, causing discomfort for the passengers. The student humorously described the experience of being rocked by “Mother Nature,” likening it to being cradled by her mother. Despite the challenging conditions, the ship eventually sailed smoothly again, allowing the friends to enjoy stops at Nassau and Celebration Key, where they made unforgettable memories.
On the final day, they returned to Miami, where they had a long layover before their flight. They took the opportunity to explore the airport and ride the Skytrain, cherishing their last moments together before parting ways. After a three-hour flight back to Detroit, the student was welcomed home by her husband, still feeling the lingering effects of the cruise. The experience served as a much-needed mental reset, proving that a little adventure can go a long way in rejuvenating the spirit.
