Diana Shipping scores second fixture of the year with Bunge deal

Greek bulker owner Diana Shipping has finalized a significant charter agreement for its ultramax vessel, DSI Altair, with commodities giant Bunge. The contract, which is set to commence on January 17, 2026, will yield approximately $5.3 million in gross revenue over its minimum duration. This deal follows a previous arrangement with Propel Shipping that offered a higher daily rate.

Details of the Charter Agreement

Diana Shipping announced that the DSI Altair will be chartered at a rate of $14,750 per day, subject to a 5% commission. The charter period is set to run from a minimum of January 15, 2027, to a maximum redelivery date of March 30, 2027. This new deal marks a strategic move for Diana Shipping as it seeks to optimize its fleet’s operational efficiency and revenue generation.

The DSI Altair, constructed in 2016 and boasting a deadweight tonnage of 60,309 dwt, was previously chartered to Propel Shipping at a higher rate of $15,750 per day. Despite the reduced rate in this new agreement, the transition is expected to provide a steady income stream for Diana Shipping through 2027. The company has highlighted this charter as a vital addition to its portfolio, reinforcing its position in the competitive shipping market.

MOL hires cape from Diana Shipping

This latest charter marks Diana Shipping’s second significant deal of the year. Earlier in the month, the company announced a follow-on time charter for its kamsarmax vessel, Maia, which will continue its service with Paralos Shipping. These strategic decisions reflect Diana Shipping’s commitment to maintaining a robust fleet presence and securing reliable partnerships within the shipping industry.
