Boston Harbor Shipyard & Marina successfully completed a complex operation to launch two dock barges for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) ferry terminal, enhancing rider experience and accessibility standards.

Boston Harbor Shipyard utilized its 500-ton floating drydock, Providence, to launch two newly fabricated dock barges built by Blue Atlantic Fabricators for the MBTA ferry terminal.

The operation involved a collaborative effort with Bay Crane Northeast, ACK Marine, A. Waller Associates, and JMS Naval Architects to ensure a successful launch using self-propelled modular transporters and advanced engineering techniques.

Boston Harbor Shipyard recently completed a significant project involving the launch of two dock barges for the MBTA ferry terminal. The 115’x30′ barges, weighing 120 tons each, were built by Blue Atlantic Fabricators and are part of a larger initiative to enhance rider experience and comply with updated accessibility standards. The successful launch operation was made possible through a collaborative effort involving various stakeholders, including Bay Crane Northeast, ACK Marine, A. Waller Associates, and JMS Naval Architects. The use of self-propelled modular transporters and advanced engineering techniques ensured the safe and efficient transfer of the dock barges. BHSM’s drydock, Providence, played a crucial role in the operation, showcasing the capabilities of the shipyard and its partners in executing complex maritime projects.
