Recent Maritime Incidents: Collisions and Rescues

On February 16, 2026, at 9:30 PM, the cargo ship ‘Empire Seaspan‘ collided with two ferries, ‘FB 14’ and ‘FB 15’, while departing from the port of Santos, Brazil. The incident occurred as the Empire Seaspan was leaving due to a lack of available berthing space. During the collision, the ferry FB 14 was under tow, while FB 15 was crossing the canal. Fortunately, four crew members from the Empire Seaspan jumped into the water but were swiftly rescued by pilot boats without any injuries. Following the incident, the ferry service between Guarujá and Santos remained operational with other ferries continuing their routes. The port captaincy of Sao Paulo has initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
