Hafnia Orders Eight Eco-Friendly Tankers

Singapore-based tanker owner Hafnia has announced a significant order for eight fuel-efficient product tankers from South Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries. The total investment for this medium-range (MR) newbuild series is approximately $405 million, with deliveries scheduled between the third quarter of 2028 and the second quarter of 2029. This strategic move aims to enhance Hafnia’s fleet performance and support its long-term growth objectives.

Investment in Sustainable Shipping

Hafnia’s recent order reflects a commitment to sustainability and operational efficiency. The new tankers are designed to deliver scale benefits and predictable performance, which are crucial for maintaining high earnings quality. CEO Mikael Skov expressed enthusiasm about returning to Hyundai Heavy Industries, emphasizing that this order secures early delivery positions at a reputable shipyard and builds on proven, fuel-efficient designs.

In addition to this latest order, Hafnia, in partnership with French shipowner Socatra, recently completed the delivery of their final dual-fuel methanol MR tanker from Guangzhou Shipyard International in January. This was part of a four-vessel order initiated in August 2023, showcasing Hafnia’s ongoing commitment to modernizing its fleet with environmentally friendly technologies.
