Norwegian Aura Makes Historic Splash in Italy
Norwegian Cruise Line has reached a significant milestone with the float-out of its largest ship, the Norwegian Aura, from the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy. This momentous event, which took place on April 16, marks the completion of the ship’s outer hull construction. Set to debut in May 2027, the Aura will accommodate nearly 3,880 guests, making it the biggest vessel in NCL’s fleet.
Design and Features of Norwegian Aura
The Norwegian Aura is designed with a focus on multi-generational travelers, featuring over 1,970 staterooms and a variety of amenities aimed at enhancing guest experiences. The ship will boast an expanded pool deck that is 20% larger than those on previous models, complete with additional seating, a new hot tub, and a Kids’ Aqua Park. Families can enjoy shared spaces while also having dedicated areas for children and teens, including Adventure Alley for kids aged six to ten and a purpose-built Teen Hangout.
In keeping with maritime tradition, two ceremonial coins were welded into the ship’s hull during a coin ceremony, symbolizing good fortune and safe passage for the vessel and its future passengers. Marc Kazlauskas, president of NCL, emphasized that the Aura will build on the legacy of the award-winning Prima Class vessels, enhancing the company’s commitment to thoughtfully designed, guest-first experiences.
Additional features include the Ocean Boulevard, which wraps around the ship and is more than 10% larger than similar spaces on previous ships. This area will offer new hot tubs, seating, and social spaces, ensuring guests have ample opportunities to relax and socialize. The Aura is also equipped with more water slides than any other NCL vessel, catering to thrill-seekers of all ages.
Upcoming Launch and Itineraries
The Norwegian Aura is scheduled to embark on its maiden voyage on May 21, 2027, with a seven-day Mediterranean cruise departing from Trieste, Italy. Following this, the ship will undertake a 14-day transatlantic journey to the United States. Starting in June 2027, the Aura will be homeported in Miami, offering a variety of Caribbean itineraries.
As the ship transitions into the next phase of construction, the focus will shift to installing interior spaces, technical systems, and onboard venues. With its impressive size and array of family-friendly features, the Norwegian Aura is poised to redefine cruising experiences for guests of all ages.
