Evalend Shipping Places Fresh Order for Four LR1 Tankers at Yangzijiang Shipbuilding

Greek shipowner Evalend Shipping has recently returned to Yangzijiang Shipbuilding with a new order for the construction of four tankers. The order includes four 73,500 DWT LR1 product tankers, priced at approximately US$55 million each, totaling around $220 million. Deliveries for these tankers are scheduled between March and September 2028.

Expansion of Fleet with Various Vessel Types

Since 2023, Evalend Shipping has been actively placing orders with Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, totaling over 20 tankers, primarily MR and LR1 product tankers. Some of these vessels are expected for delivery in 2025 and 2026, while the rest are set for delivery by 2028.

In addition to the recent oil tanker orders, Evalend Shipping has also diversified its fleet by placing orders this year with Tangshan Dajin Heavy Industry for multiple 211,000 DWT bulk carriers, and with Hengli Heavy Industries for two 88,000-cubic-meter Very Large Ammonia Carriers (VLACs).

Impressive Growth for Yangzijiang Shipbuilding

Yangzijiang Shipbuilding has shown significant growth, as per the semi-annual data released recently. The company secured new orders for 38 vessels valued at US$1.75 billion in the first half of 2026, delivering 27 vessels, which accounted for 47% of its annual delivery target of 58 vessels. In July 2026, the shipbuilder secured additional orders worth US$200 million, including two 50,000 DWT MR product tankers and two 75,000 DWT LR1 product tankers.

As of June 30, 2026, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding’s orderbook includes 256 vessels (8.67 million compensated gross tonnage) valued at approximately US$22.4 billion, with delivery schedules extending to 2030. The orderbook comprises a diverse mix of vessel types, including 151 container ships, 41 oil tankers, 37 bulk carriers, and 27 gas carriers.

With delivery slots for 2029 almost fully booked, the shipbuilder has started accepting orders for 2030 delivery slots, showcasing its strong position in the market for the upcoming years.
