GRSE partners with M/s Damen to advance India’s dredging and maritime
At the recent SMM Hamburg Maritime Trade Fair in Germany, Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) Ltd., a Navratna Defence Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Defence, Government of India, made a significant move by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with global maritime organization Damen Technical Cooperation B.V., Netherlands. This strategic partnership aims to enhance GRSE’s technological capabilities and global competitiveness on the international stage. The MoU was signed on 02 Sep 26 with the intention of exploring the design and construction of advanced dredgers in India.
Collaboration for Advanced Dredger Design and Construction
The MoU between GRSE and Damen Technical Cooperation B.V. combines GRSE’s expertise in shipbuilding with Damen’s extensive experience in Trailing Suction Hopper Dredgers (TSHD) and Water Injection Dredgers (WID). The key areas of cooperation outlined in the agreement include advanced dredger design and technology, technical know-how transfer, joint design and construction proposals, development of indigenous dredger-building capabilities, and long-term cooperation to meet future dredging requirements.
Strengthening GRSE’s Position in the Specialized Dredger Segment
This partnership builds upon the existing collaboration between GRSE and Damen, particularly the ongoing construction of a 1,000 m³ dredger for the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA). The MoU is expected to enhance GRSE’s position in the specialized dredger segment and support India’s growing demand for modern dredging capabilities. GRSE Ltd. expressed their vision for the collaboration, stating, “Combining global design expertise with Indian shipbuilding strength to build the next generation of dredgers for India and beyond.”
By forging this alliance with Damen Technical Cooperation B.V., GRSE aims to leverage global best practices and cutting-edge technology to drive innovation in the Indian maritime industry. The MoU represents a significant step towards enhancing India’s self-reliance in the design and construction of advanced dredgers, thereby contributing to the nation’s maritime prowess on a global scale.
