New Pacific books first shipbuilding order: two tugs for American Marine
Startup shipbuilder New Pacific Industrial, based in Vancouver, Wash., has secured its inaugural new construction project with American Marine Corp. in Honolulu. The collaboration will see the construction of two 122’x37′ oceangoing tugs, marking a significant milestone for both companies.
American Marine Corp. Celebrates 50 Years with First-Ever Newbuilds
The American-class boats, designed by Glosten of Seattle, represent the first-ever newbuilds in American Marine’s 50-year history. Previously, the towing and marine services operator had expanded its fleet through acquisitions. Bob Shahnazarian, president and owner of American Marine Corp., expressed the significance of this new venture, emphasizing the importance of investing in the future of their operations.
New Pacific Industrial will undertake the construction of the vessels at its Columbia River waterfront shipyard, with the lead boat set for delivery in the third quarter of 2028. The company’s Vancouver site, which boasts over 180,000 sq. ft. of covered space, offers state-of-the-art facilities for shipbuilding and heavy industrial fabrication.
Collaboration and Innovation Drive Project Success
The project brings together a team of experienced individuals, including CEO Joe Corvelli, COO Chris Palmer, and CCO Peter Roney, who collectively possess over 90 years of expertise in commercial and government shipbuilding, marine operations, and advanced manufacturing. The partnership with Glosten ensures that the design and engineering aspects of the project are handled with precision and efficiency.
Glosten’s CT-120 line-haul tug concept serves as the foundation for the design, tailored to meet American Marine’s specific requirements while maintaining a focus on range, towing performance, and constructability. The 499-gross tonnage boats will feature powerful Wabtec marine diesels, Nautican nozzles, and Reintjes reverse-reduction gears, all supplied by industry-leading manufacturers.
