Yang Ming Names Fourth 15,500 TEU LNG Dual-Fuel Container Vessel at HD Hyundai
Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp. (Yang Ming) recently celebrated a naming ceremony on September 17 at the HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HD HHI) shipyard in Ulsan, South Korea, for the unveiling of “YM Weight,” the fourth vessel in its series of five 15,500 TEU-class LNG dual-fuel container vessels built by HD HHI.
Cutting-Edge Features of “YM Weight”
The series of vessels constructed by HD HHI boasts impressive specifications, with a Length Overall (LOA) of 364.97 meters, a breadth of 51 meters, and a capacity of approximately 15,600 TEU. These vessels are equipped with high-pressure dual-fuel main engines that operate on both LNG and low-sulfur fuel oil. Additionally, they feature integrated navigational information, equipment monitoring systems, broadband maritime satellite systems, and various energy-saving mechanisms to optimize operational efficiency and enhance navigational safety.
Commitment to Safety and Sustainability
“YM Weight” is jointly classed by CR and the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), ensuring rigorous safety standards and technical compliance for next-generation LNG dual-fuel vessels. Notably, the vessel has achieved two industry firsts by receiving the Underwater Noise (UWN) notation from ABS and the Underwater Radiated Noise (URN) notation from CR. These recognitions highlight Yang Ming’s dedication to minimizing operational impacts on marine life and promoting sustainable development.
In addition to expanding its modern fleet and reinforcing its core shipping operations, Yang Ming prioritizes professional training for seafarers handling alternative-fuel vessels. Senior Captain Ming-Yeong Pan, a key figure in Yang Ming’s seafaring team, has been appointed as the delivery captain of “YM Weight.” Captain Pan holds the distinction of being the first seafarer in Taiwan to receive the Advanced Training Certificate under the International Code of Safety for Ships Using Gases or Other Low-flashpoint Fuels (IGF Code).
Deployment of “YM Weight”
“YM Weight” is set to join Yang Ming’s Asia–West Mediterranean MS2 service, offering customers reliable transportation services between key markets in Asia and the West Mediterranean. The vessel will follow a comprehensive port rotation that includes stops at prominent ports such as Pusan, Shanghai, Ningbo, Kaohsiung, Shekou, Singapore, Tangier, Valencia, Barcelona, Genoa, La Spezia, Fos, Laem Chabang, Cai Mep, Yantian, Long Beach, and Oakland, among others.
