ZPMC Inks 2+2 38,000 DWT Heavy-Lift Vessel Contract with Henghui Shipping

The 2026 National Advanced Manufacturing Cluster for High-Tech Ships and Marine Equipment Development Promotion Conference, held in Nantong from September 16 to 19, saw Shanghai Zhenhua Port Machinery (ZPMC) making significant strides in the maritime industry. During the event, ZPMC inked a strategic cooperation agreement with the Jiangsu Branch of the China Classification Society and sealed a contract with Henghui Shipping for a project involving 2+2 38,000 DWT heavy-lift vessels.

Venturing into New Horizons

ZPMC’s foray into the multi-purpose heavy-lift vessel market began two years ago, with the company securing its maiden order in August 2024. The contract with Chipolbrok marked the construction of two 38,000 DWT multi-purpose heavy-lift vessels, with an option for two additional ships. These vessels are equipped with three 250-tonne cranes, boasting a combined lifting capacity of 500 tonnes. Featuring two extra-long cargo holds and a continuous open deck, these vessels excel in loading and transporting large-scale machinery, equipment, and project cargo. Their design emphasizes cargo versatility and capacity, catering to varied project-related materials. Noteworthy energy-saving features like rudder bulbs, wake-equalizing ducts, and a high-voltage shore power system, coupled with an optimized hull design, contribute to reduced energy consumption and emissions.

Expanding Business Horizons

Apart from the recent orders for multi-purpose heavy-lift vessels, ZPMC has also disclosed contracts this year for the construction of two cable-laying vessels and one trailing suction hopper dredger. The data underscores ZPMC’s standing as a key player in heavy equipment manufacturing, with a global market share exceeding 70% for port machinery. The company holds the distinction of being the world’s largest manufacturer of port machinery and automated terminal system solutions, as well as the leading transporter of port machinery. ZPMC’s global footprint extends to specialized engineering vessels and large-scale steel structures, with its products reaching 111 countries and regions worldwide.

In conclusion, ZPMC’s strategic collaborations and diverse portfolio expansion underscore its commitment to innovation and excellence in the maritime sector, solidifying its position as a frontrunner in heavy-lift vessel manufacturing and specialized engineering solutions.
