HD Korea Shipbuilding Wins $240 Million Order for Two Ro-Ro Ships
HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, a subsidiary of HD Hyundai, has recently announced a significant contract with a European shipping company to construct two roll-on/roll-off (RORO) vessels. The deal, valued at 336.2 billion won ($242 million), marks a substantial milestone for the shipbuilding company.
Construction Details and Timeline
The RORO vessels will be constructed at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and are scheduled to be delivered by the second half of 2029. These vessels are specifically designed to accommodate wheeled cargo, such as vehicles and trailers, allowing them to drive on and off the ship under their own power via ramps.
Impressive Growth for HD Korea Shipbuilding
With this latest contract, HD Korea Shipbuilding’s total orders for the year have now reached 169 vessels, amounting to a value of $18.71 billion. This achievement represents 80.3% of the company’s annual order target of $23.31 billion, surpassing last year’s total of $18.55 billion in just nine months.
The orders received by HD Korea Shipbuilding include a diverse range of vessel types, such as 17 liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers, 30 container ships, 52 carriers for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), ammonia, and liquefied carbon dioxide, 11 crude oil tankers, 53 petrochemical product carriers, two pure car and truck carriers (PCTC), in addition to the two RORO vessels secured in the recent contract.
This latest development underscores HD Korea Shipbuilding’s continued success in the maritime industry, solidifying its position as a key player in the global shipbuilding market.
