K Line Orders Two LNG Carriers at Samsung Heavy Industries for $494m

On October 5, 2026, K Line, a prominent shipping company, has secured an order for two LNG carriers from Samsung Heavy Industries at a cost of KRW672.2bn, amounting to $494m. The order, placed by an undisclosed Asian shipowner, is set for delivery by May 2029.

Expanding Partnership with Diamond Global Energy

Industry insiders have linked Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K Line) to this deal, indicating that the vessels are intended for operations with Diamond Global Energy, a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Corporation. This contract further solidifies the existing relationship between K Line and Diamond Global Energy, with past collaborations at Samsung’s shipyard.

In recent months, K Line has been actively investing in LNG tonnage from Samsung. In May, the company launched the Diamond Gas Jade, a 174,000 cubic meter vessel, constructed for Mitsubishi’s involvement in the LNG Canada project. Additionally, K Line christened another vessel, Toho Emerald, in September, further expanding its LNG shipping capabilities.

Samsung’s Success in the LNG Segment

Samsung Heavy Industries has seen significant success in the LNG sector this year. With the latest order, the shipyard has secured a total of 20 LNG carrier orders in 2026, totaling $8bn in commercial ship orders. Including two FLNG contracts, Samsung’s overall intake amounts to $12.4bn, encompassing 48 vessels and offshore units.

K Line has identified LNG shipping as a key area driving its growth strategy. The company aims to secure long-term contracts with major energy companies and LNG projects to further expand its presence in the industry.

Overall, the partnership between K Line and Samsung Heavy Industries underscores the growing demand for LNG carriers in the maritime sector. With a focus on efficiency and sustainability, both companies are poised to play a significant role in the global LNG transportation market in the coming years.
