ABS Named Classification Society of the Year in Offshore at ShipTek Awards 2024

ABS was recognized as the Classification Society of the Year in Offshore at the ShipTek International Conference & Awards held in Saudi Arabia. The event, which brought together over 200 industry professionals, aimed to acknowledge outstanding achievements and advancements in the maritime and offshore sectors.


Accepting the award on behalf of ABS was Dheeraj Sharma, ABS Director of Marine and Offshore Regional Business Development in the Middle East and Africa. In his acceptance speech, Sharma expressed gratitude for the prestigious accolade and underscored its importance. “This award serves as a testament to our unwavering dedication to safety, sustainability, and excellence in the offshore industry,” he said. “Together, we will continue to chart a course towards a safer and more sustainable future for our industry.”


In addition to being honored with the award, ABS played an active role in various conference sessions. Dheeraj delivered a presentation entitled “Decarbonization Landscape in Shipping,” highlighting the latest decarbonization advancements and solutions in the shipping sector. Achieving net-zero carbon emissions in shipping will require the implementation of energy-efficient technologies, such as retrofits featuring lower friction coatings, alongside carbon capture technologies and the adoption of biofuels.


Wala Al Duhaim, an ABS Surveyor, took part in a panel discussion centered on “Fostering Women’s Leadership in Maritime.” During the panel, she shared her firsthand experiences as the first female marine surveyor in Saudi Arabia.


The conference facilitated valuable exchanges among industry professionals, offering insights and discussions on shaping the future of the maritime and offshore industries.
