ABS Signs MOU with Three Korean Maritime Bodies to Develop Standards for Smart Ships and Smart Shipyards
ABS, a leading provider of classification services to the global maritime industry, has recently announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with three prominent Korean maritime organizations. The aim of this collaboration is to advance the development of international standards for the next generation of smart ships and shipyards.
Korean Maritime Organizations Join Forces with ABS
The Korea Marine Equipment Research Institute (KOMERI), the Korean Offshore & Shipbuilding Association (KOSHIPA), and the Research Institute of Medium & Small Shipbuilding (RIMS) have partnered with ABS in a five-year framework. Together, they will work towards developing global benchmarks for vessels and shipyards that leverage digital technology, smart manufacturing, and advanced maritime systems.
As part of this initiative, ABS is already actively involved in supporting the development of preliminary standards in key areas such as digital production, traceability requirements for additively manufactured shipboard components, and vent mast design for hydrogen-fueled ships.
