Alberta seals first baby cape deal of the year
Alberta Shipmanagement Acquires First Baby Cape of 2023

In a notable move within the shipping industry, Alberta Shipmanagement, led by Nicholas Inglessis, has completed its first purchase of a baby cape, marking a significant transaction as the first of its kind reported this year. The company acquired the 118,000 dwt Jubilant Devotion, a scrubber-fitted bulk carrier built in 2016, for $26.5 million. This acquisition highlights Alberta’s strategic expansion in the bulker market.
Strategic Expansion in Bulk Carrier Fleet
Alberta Shipmanagement, a Greek shipping company with a fleet of 19 vessels, has made headlines with its recent acquisition. The Jubilant Devotion, which was constructed at Sanoyas Shipbuilding, is a significant addition to the company’s bulker fleet. This purchase follows Alberta’s previous successful transaction late last year, where it sold the 2007-built, 203,000 dwt Newcastlemax vessel Panoramix for $28 million, yielding a profit for the company.

The acquisition of the Jubilant Devotion not only enhances Alberta’s fleet but also reflects a growing trend in the shipping industry as companies seek to modernize their operations with newer vessels. Currently, Alberta’s bulker fleet consists of two capesize vessels and six post-Panamax ships, with an average age of 10 years. This strategic move positions Alberta to better meet the demands of the market while maintaining a competitive edge in the bulker segment.
As the shipping industry continues to evolve, Alberta Shipmanagement’s proactive approach to fleet expansion may serve as a model for other companies looking to navigate the complexities of maritime logistics and trade.
