Almi Marine Orders Three Ultramax Bulkers at COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry

Greek dry bulk shipowner Almi Marine Management is moving forward with its fleet renewal plan by placing an order for three Ultramax bulk carriers with a Chinese shipbuilder. The order, placed with COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Zhoushan), includes vessels with a capacity of 64,000 DWT and is expected to be delivered in 2030.

Expansion of Fleet Renewal Plan

Almi Marine Management’s decision to accelerate its fleet renewal plan comes after the recent announcement of the newbuilding contract. The construction cost per vessel has not been disclosed, but with Chinese shipbuilders quoting approximately $36 million for standard Ultramax bulk carriers, the total construction cost for the three vessels is estimated to be around $108 million.

This latest order adds to the series of newbuilding contracts announced by Almi Marine Management in recent years. Earlier this year, the company confirmed an order for two 64,000 DWT bulk carriers from Nantong COSCO KHI Ship Engineering Co., Ltd. (NACKS), with delivery expected in the second quarter of 2029.

Strategic Partnerships and Fleet Expansion

Almi Marine Management’s fleet expansion strategy includes building partnerships with reputable shipyards. The company’s projects under construction now include five new 64,000 DWT vessels, all being constructed by shipyards affiliated with COSCO. Almi Marine Management has longstanding partnerships with Sino-Japanese joint ventures NACKS and Dalian COSCO KHI Ship Engineering Co., Ltd. (DACKS).

In addition to the new orders, Almi Marine Management also disclosed plans to dispose of older vessels, such as the “Anasa,” built in 2008. Currently, the company owns six bulk carriers and continues to focus on enhancing its fleet through strategic acquisitions and partnerships.

By expanding its fleet with modern vessels, Almi Marine Management aims to strengthen its position in the dry bulk shipping industry and improve operational efficiency. The company’s commitment to fleet renewal underscores its long-term vision for sustainable growth and success in the maritime sector.
