Amon Maritime Secures NOK 298 Million for Green Shipping

Amon Maritime has announced a significant boost to its green shipping initiatives, receiving NOK 298 million in investment grants from Enova. This funding will support the construction of three new ammonia-fueled bulk carriers, marking a pivotal step in the company’s commitment to sustainable maritime transport. The vessels, designed for high energy efficiency, are set to enhance Amon Bulk’s leadership in ammonia-powered deep-sea shipping.

Innovative Vessels for a Sustainable Future

The new bulk carriers will fall within the Kamsarmax segment, each boasting a capacity of approximately 80,000 to 85,000 deadweight tons (DWT). These vessels are engineered to meet the growing demands of European steel industries, which are increasingly seeking low-carbon logistics solutions. Amon Maritime’s design aligns with the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) and the FuelEU Maritime regulation, ensuring compliance with stringent climate targets while also delivering economic viability under evolving regulatory frameworks.

André Risholm, CEO of Amon Maritime, expressed enthusiasm about the grant, stating, “This grant provides the foundation to move forward with three additional Kamsarmax vessels. It marks a significant milestone for Amon Bulk and for the shipping industry’s green transition.” With this latest funding, Amon Bulk has now secured over NOK 552 million from Enova for the development of five ammonia-powered bulk carriers, with the first two vessels announced earlier this year.

All five ships are scheduled for delivery between 2029 and 2030, representing a new generation of zero-emission bulk carriers poised to transform the global shipping landscape. Amon Maritime is at the forefront of the green shift in shipping, pioneering the use of ammonia as fuel across various aspects of maritime operations, including newbuildings, ship management, and bunkering infrastructure. The company aims to establish itself as the world’s first carbon-free shipping entity, collaborating with leading technology, commercial, and financial partners to realize this vision.
