Anhui’s Dongfang shipyard reemerges with new backers

Chinese Shipyard Secures First International Orders

A new shipyard in Anhui province, China, has successfully landed its initial overseas contracts. Zongyang Shipyard, in collaboration with Singapore’s Winning International, will construct four 12,000 dwt deck cargo carriers, with delivery scheduled for 2026 and 2027. This significant milestone marks the shipyard’s entry into the global maritime market, although the financial aspects of the deal remain undisclosed.

Background of Zongyang Shipyard

Launched in February 2025, Zongyang Shipyard is a joint venture between Anhui P&S Sealand and Shandong Port Group, representing a combined investment of $100 million. The facility has emerged from the remnants of Anhui Dongfang Shipbuilding, previously the largest private shipbuilder in the province, which faced collapse during a downturn in the shipbuilding industry.

Newbuilding orders at Chinese shipyards up 43% in H1

Despite its recent establishment, Zongyang Shipyard has already made notable strides in securing contracts, amassing orders for a total of 12 ships. The recent deal with Winning International highlights the shipyard’s potential for growth and its capability to meet international standards. As it continues to expand its operations, Zongyang Shipyard is poised to play a significant role in the revival of China’s shipbuilding sector.
