AP intends to build a logistics hub and coastal highway in Tarluwada
The government of Andhra Pradesh (AP) is planning to create a new coastal highway that will link the Vizag port container terminal to the National Highway 16 (NH-16) near Bhogapuram. The road will pass through key areas like Rushikonda and Bheemili. This ambitious project, estimated to cost ₹6,300 crore, aims to improve connectivity between important locations such as the Vizag port and the upcoming international airport in Bhogapuram.
Although the project is not yet part of any national government plans, the state has presented its proposal to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to move forward with the six-lane coastal road. In a recent meeting held in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh’s Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu discussed the project in great detail, outlining its importance for the state’s infrastructure.
Currently, the state is working on creating a detailed project report (DPR) for the coastal highway. The government has committed to investing ₹1,200 crore for purchasing the land needed for the project. The remaining funds are expected to be provided by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and NHAI. To further improve logistics and transportation in the region, the state will also contribute 157 acres of land in Tarluwada for the construction of a Multi-Modal Logistics Park (MMLP). This park will serve as a key location to improve the movement of goods and materials, connecting the Vizag port, the new Bhogapuram airport, and other industrial zones.
The total estimated cost for the entire project is ₹6,289 crore. This includes ₹4,315 crore for land acquisition and ₹1,974 crore for civil construction. The planned coastal highway will offer easy access to various sectors, including social infrastructure, industrial zones, tourism destinations, and major national highways.
The detailed project report will also highlight areas along the route that could be developed into tourism attractions, logistics centers, and service sectors such as healthcare, education, and travel. The project aims to create space for IT parks, port-based economies, urban infrastructure, and public services. Furthermore, government-owned land along the Vizag to Bhogapuram route will be developed to create new economic opportunities. This includes plans for food courts, playgrounds, and even beach resorts to attract tourists and boost the local economy.
