ASRY and Fincantieri partner on naval vessel construction in Bahrain
ASRY and Fincantieri Forge Strategic Shipbuilding Alliance
Arab Shipbuilding and Repair Yard (ASRY) has entered a significant partnership with the Italian shipbuilding giant Fincantieri, aimed at enhancing collaboration in shipbuilding, maintenance, and repair services. The agreement was formalized in a ceremony attended by Bahrain’s Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, underscoring the high-level governmental support for this initiative. This partnership not only focuses on new vessel projects but also emphasizes maintenance and repair services for various types of ships.
Strengthening Maritime Capabilities in Bahrain
The strategic agreement was signed by ASRY’s Chief Executive Officer, Ahmed Al Abri, and Eugenio Santagata, General Manager of Fincantieri’s Naval Vessels Division. This collaboration will encompass a wide range of services, including maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) for naval, commercial, and offshore vessels. Additionally, the partnership will facilitate the exchange of expertise in ship design and production process optimization.
Al Abri expressed optimism about the partnership, stating, “These important strategic partnerships will further strengthen ASRY’s capabilities as the leading maritime fabrication and repair facility across the Arabian Gulf region.” The agreement also includes plans for joint assessments regarding the design and construction of surface naval vessels up to 80 meters long, specifically for Bahrain’s Navy and Coast Guard. This initiative aims to bolster local naval capabilities while exploring potential export opportunities throughout the Gulf region.

Innovative Additive Manufacturing Facility Planned
In addition to its collaboration with Fincantieri, ASRY has signed another agreement with Roboze, an Italian company specializing in additive manufacturing technologies. This partnership will lead to the establishment of Bahrain’s first industrial facility dedicated to advanced additive manufacturing, focusing on high-performance super-polymers and composite materials. The new smart plant will be integrated within ASRY’s existing facilities in Bahrain, further enhancing the region’s technological capabilities.
These strategic partnerships mark a pivotal moment in ASRY’s efforts to expand its shipbuilding capabilities and solidify its position as a leading maritime hub in the Gulf. By leveraging international expertise and innovative technologies, ASRY aims to enhance its service offerings and contribute to the growth of the maritime industry in the region.
