New Maritime Route Between Morocco and West Africa to Boost Trade

Morocco has taken a big step to strengthen trade with West African nations. On Wednesday, officials signed an important agreement to create the Agadir-Dakar commercial maritime route. This new shipping route will make it easier and cheaper to move goods between Morocco and West Africa.

The signing ceremony happened under the leadership of Said Amzazi, the Wali of the Souss-Massa region and governor of the Agadir Ida-Outanane prefecture. The goal of this route is to improve freight transport and solve problems faced by overland routes.

Key Figures Behind the Project

The agreement was signed by Karim Achengli, President of the Souss-Massa Regional Council, and Gregory Darling, President of the Atlas Marine Group, the company managing this project. Their shared mission is to:

  1. Lower Transport Costs: The new maritime route will make shipping goods cheaper, helping businesses save money.
  2. Improve Logistics: It will make transporting commodities and trucks more efficient.
  3. Strengthen Trade: The route will encourage more trade between Morocco and countries in West Africa.

Achengli shared that this project is part of the Royal Vision to improve cooperation within Africa. It’s not just about trade; it’s also about creating better opportunities for sustainable development in the Souss-Massa region.

A Boost for Trade and Development

The new maritime route will open doors for investment and trade. It will help Moroccan businesses enter West African markets more easily. Driss Boutti, President of the Souss-Massa branch of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM), explained that this route is a big step in strengthening Morocco’s ties with Africa.
