Austal to hire 500 workers in Western Australia as government expands sovereign
Austal, a renowned shipbuilding company, has announced its plans to hire 500 tradespeople and professional staff in Western Australia within the next 12 months. This recruitment drive aligns with the company’s commencement of landing craft programmes for the Australian Defence Force.
Expanding Workforce at Henderson and Fremantle Facilities
The recruitment process will encompass Austal’s Henderson and Fremantle facilities. The open trade positions available include fabrication, pipe fitting, welding, electrical work, mechanical fitting, and cabinet making. Additionally, Austal is also looking for staff in engineering, project management, procurement, quality, and support functions.
No Prior Shipbuilding Experience Required
Interestingly, Austal has mentioned that previous shipbuilding experience is not mandatory for experienced tradespeople applying for relevant roles. The company is dedicated to recruiting apprentices and graduates to bolster its workforce for the new defence programmes.
