Baker Hughes wins subsea contract for Turkish gas field
Baker Hughes Secures Major Turkish Gas Field Contract

In a significant development for Turkey’s energy sector, Baker Hughes has been awarded a contract by Turkish Petroleum (TPAO) to supply advanced subsea production systems for the Sakarya gas field. This contract marks a crucial phase in the field’s development, with Baker Hughes set to deliver deepwater technology that will enhance production capabilities at considerable depths. The project is expected to commence in late 2025, further solidifying Baker Hughes’ partnership with TPAO, which began in 2022.
Innovative Technology for Enhanced Production
Baker Hughes will provide state-of-the-art deepwater horizontal tree systems along with necessary subsea structures and control systems. These systems are designed to operate effectively at depths ranging from 2,000 to 2,200 meters, showcasing the company’s commitment to advancing subsea technology. The upper and lower completion systems will enable multizonal control, allowing for improved management of subsurface operations. This innovative approach is particularly beneficial for optimizing production in the unique geological conditions of the Black Sea, where thin-layered reservoirs present specific challenges.
The collaboration between Baker Hughes and TPAO has been ongoing since the inception of the Sakarya gas field project. The energy advisory team from Baker Hughes has played a pivotal role in evaluating the reservoir and technology needs, ensuring that the solutions provided are tailored to the field’s distinct subsurface characteristics. Amerino Gatti, Executive Vice President of Oilfield Services and Equipment at Baker Hughes, emphasized the transformative impact of the Sakarya gas fields on Turkey’s energy landscape, stating that it paves the way for a more prosperous and secure future for the nation.
As the project progresses, the partnership between Baker Hughes and TPAO is expected to yield significant advancements in Turkey’s energy independence and production capabilities, marking a new era in the country’s energy sector.
