Baku Shipyard reaches 35–40% completion on new ASCO tankers

New Tankers Under Construction at Baku Shipyard

Construction is underway for three new tankers at the Baku Shipyard, as confirmed by ASCO, a subsidiary of AZCON Holding. Currently, one tanker is approximately 40% complete, while the other two are at about 35% completion. These vessels are designed to enhance operational flexibility and meet modern international standards.

Innovative Design and Specifications

The new tankers are engineered for efficiency, featuring a maximum speed of 10 knots and a deadweight capacity of 7,740 tons. Each vessel will measure 141 meters in length, 16.98 meters in width, and 6 meters in height. Their specialized design allows them to dock fully loaded at shallow ports, making them versatile for various operational needs.

In addition to their functional capabilities, these tankers are built to comply with the highest safety and environmental regulations. This commitment to modern engineering reflects ASCO’s dedication to innovation in maritime transport. The current project follows the successful commissioning of four previous tankers at the Baku Shipyard, which have been effectively utilized for transporting oil, petroleum products, and chemicals.

The new vessels share a design similar to the previously delivered “Akademik Khoshbakht Yusifzade” and “Zangilan,” ensuring that they maintain the same operational capabilities and safety standards. This continuity is crucial for ASCO as it expands its fleet to meet growing demands in the maritime industry.

ASCO’s Commitment to Quality

ASCO has a proven track record in the construction of tankers, having successfully delivered four vessels in the past. The “Lachin” and “Kalbajar” are dedicated to transporting oil and petroleum products, while the “Akademik Khoshbakht Yusifzade” and “Zangilan” are designed for both oil and chemical transport. The ongoing construction of the three new tankers signifies ASCO’s commitment to enhancing its fleet and ensuring that it remains competitive in the maritime sector.

As the construction progresses, stakeholders are optimistic about the impact these new vessels will have on operational efficiency and safety in maritime transport. The Baku Shipyard continues to play a pivotal role in advancing Azerbaijan’s maritime capabilities.
