Bangladesh Shipping Corporation Secures Historic Ship Purchase

In a groundbreaking move for the maritime industry, the Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) has announced the procurement of two modern bulk carriers using its own financing. This significant milestone was highlighted during a signing ceremony held in Dhaka on September 21, 2025. Shipping Adviser Brigadier General (Rtd) M Sakhawat Hussain emphasized that this is the first instance in the nation’s history where BSC is acquiring vessels without external funding. The new ships are expected to boost BSC’s annual income by Tk150 crore and enhance its transport capacity by approximately 120,000 DWT.
Details of the Acquisition
The agreement for the ship supply was signed between BSC and Hellenic Dry Bulk Ventures LLC, a US-based company. The two vessels, constructed under German license in China, are designed to be environmentally friendly and energy-efficient, adhering to the latest International Maritime Organization (IMO) standards. Notably, the ships will be equipped with advanced European and Japanese technology, including pumps sourced from Spain and compressors from Norway.
