Bermuda’s New Ferries Achieve Technical Acceptance
Strategic Marine has announced a significant milestone in the development of two 40-meter aluminum catamaran ferries for the Government of Bermuda. The successful Technical Acceptance of these vessels indicates they are on track for final delivery and deployment in Bermuda’s waters. Designed to enhance public transport and cruise tourism, these ferries promise to deliver a modern and efficient travel experience.
Innovative Design and Environmental Benefits
The new ferries, crafted by One2Three Naval Architects, are designed with passenger comfort and accessibility in mind. Each vessel can accommodate up to 550 passengers, including designated spaces for individuals with disabilities. This initiative aims to bolster Bermuda’s public transport system while also catering to the needs of tourists visiting the island.
One of the standout features of these catamarans is their reduced environmental impact. Compared to existing ferries, the new vessels are expected to lower CO2 emissions by approximately 25% on a passenger mile basis. This reduction is achieved through optimized design and construction tailored to meet both current and future operational requirements of the Government of Bermuda. Additionally, the new ferries promise significant operational cost savings, making them a sustainable choice for the island’s transportation network.

With delivery scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2025, the “Bermuda Ferries” project is advancing as planned, further solidifying Strategic Marine’s reputation as a reliable partner in providing innovative and high-performance passenger vessels.
