Birdon Set to Deliver First Tranche of Bridge Erection Boats (BEBs) to the Netherlands Army

Birdon America Progresses on Netherlands Army BEB Contract

Birdon America, Inc. is steadily advancing its contract to deliver Bridge Erection Boats (BEBs) to the Netherlands Army, with six vessels nearing the final stages of assembly. The contract, initially awarded to General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS) in 2023, involves the provision of three Wide Gap Crossing systems, which include Birdon’s BEBs, Improved Ribbon Bridges (IRB), and Bridge Adapter Pallets (BAP). The first tranche of deliveries is on track for completion by September, marking a significant milestone in the project that is set to conclude between 2024 and 2025.

Australian Landing Craft Program Progresses

In addition to the upcoming delivery, Birdon is finalizing an Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) package, encompassing technical manuals and training programs. This package is designed to ensure the Netherlands Armed Forces can effectively operate the BEBs, with training scheduled to commence in early 2025. A key preparatory meeting took place in July, where Birdon collaborated with representatives from the Netherlands Army and GDELS to assess production progress and finalize quality inspections, including a successful sea trial of the first boat.

Birdon’s extensive experience in designing and manufacturing BEBs for various global armies, including those of Australia, Brazil, and the United States, underpins its ability to meet the Netherlands Army’s needs. The BEBs being produced in Denver for the Netherlands will incorporate enhanced features such as an icebreaker bow and a new quick-release launch system, aimed at improving operational efficiency and durability. Birdon’s proven track record highlights its capacity to deliver cutting-edge maritime solutions to defense forces worldwide.
