The Bahamas Maritime Authority Joins Global Cruise Leaders to Promote Sustainability
The Bahamas Maritime Authority (BMA) recently took part in an important cruise industry event, the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) Summit and Executive Partner Briefing. Represented by its Managing Director and CEO, Dwain Hutchinson, and Registrar, Kindinicia Moore, the BMA joined other global leaders to discuss ways to make cruising more sustainable and innovative.
This summit created opportunities for industry leaders to network, share ideas, and work together on plans to improve the cruise sector. One of the main focuses of the event was the move toward decarbonization—reducing carbon emissions to help the environment. The cruise industry is aiming to reach net-zero emissions by 2030, and discussions at the summit explored how to achieve this ambitious goal.
During the event, The Bahamas received special recognition for its efforts to support CLIA’s review of the Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) at the International Maritime Organization (IMO). This recognition highlights The Bahamas’ strong commitment to protecting the environment and encouraging progress in sustainable cruising.
