BMA Strengthens Ties with Japan’s Maritime Industry

Japan’s Shipping Industry: A Growing Opportunity for The BMA

Japan is a major player in global trade, with over 99% of its foreign trade relying on ships. The country also has a busy domestic shipping industry that moves goods and people between its many islands. This makes Japan a key market for The Bahamas Maritime Authority (The BMA).

In mid-September, The BMA held a special promotional week in Japan to build stronger relationships with companies in the shipping industry. During the week, meetings were held with people from different companies, including banks, ship finance organizations, and other important groups. These meetings helped The BMA connect with both current and future clients in Japan.

The BMA team for this event included several important leaders, such as Capt. Jahangir Hussain, the Asia Regional Director; Hitoshi Matsumoto, the Japan Director; Registrar Juanita Butler; and Chie Funada. The team used this visit to show their dedication to Japan’s maritime industry and were happy with the positive response they received during the meetings.

This visit was not just a friendly gesture. It was an important step in strengthening ties with shipping companies in cities like Tokyo, Osaka, and Imabari, as well as other nearby areas. By building these relationships, The BMA hopes to play a bigger role in Japan’s busy and important shipping industry in the future.
