UK Maritime Law Firms Merge to Expand Expertise

In a significant development in the maritime legal sector, Tatham & Co and Sea Green Law, two prominent UK firms, have merged to form a new practice comprising 22 lawyers. The newly combined firm officially began operations on April 1, 2025, under the established name of Tatham & Co. This strategic alliance aims to enhance the firms’ capabilities, enabling them to tackle larger contentious cases while broadening their expertise for clients.
Strengthened Legal Services through Merger
The merger between Tatham & Co and Sea Green Law marks a pivotal moment in the maritime legal landscape. The new entity will be co-led by Stephen Askins and James Hickland from Tatham & Co and Ted Graham from Sea Green Law. This leadership team is poised to leverage its collective experience to strengthen the firm’s offerings. By joining forces, the firms aim to address a wider array of legal challenges, particularly in contentious maritime cases.
One of the key advantages of this merger is the enhancement of the firm’s capabilities in dry shipping and the sale of goods. This development complements Tatham & Co’s existing admiralty team, positioning the firm to better serve its clients in a competitive marketplace. Stephen Askins expressed enthusiasm about the merger, noting, “We are delighted that Sea Green has agreed that the time is now right for us to join forces and take our combined maritime law expertise to the next stage.” He emphasized that the merger will create synergies and efficiencies that will benefit both clients and the firm itself.
As the legal landscape evolves, this merger represents a proactive approach to meeting client needs and expanding service offerings. With a focus on larger cases and a broader range of expertise, Tatham & Co is set to become a formidable player in the maritime law sector.
