Candler Schiffahrt Expands Fleet with New Orders
German multipurpose vessel (MPV) specialist Candler Schiffahrt has expanded its fleet by ordering two additional vessels from Jiangxi New Jiangzhou Shipbuilding Heavy Industry in China. This new contract follows a previous order for four newbuildings made in March. The latest deal enhances Candler’s operational capabilities and reflects its commitment to modernizing its fleet.
Details of the New Orders
The two new vessels will each have a deadweight tonnage (dwt) of 12,000 and measure 140 meters in length. They have been designed by the Shanghai Merchant Ship Design & Research Institute (SDARI). These vessels will comply with the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) Phase 3 and the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Tier III standards for nitrogen oxides (NOx) emissions. This compliance is crucial as the maritime industry increasingly focuses on sustainability and reducing environmental impact.
Candler Schiffahrt, based in Bremen, currently operates four multipurpose vessels under its management, along with several chartered ships. The company’s strategic decision to secure additional vessels indicates a proactive approach to meeting growing market demands. The recent orders from Jiangxi New Jiangzhou Shipbuilding, formerly known as Jiangzhou Union Shipbuilding, also highlight the yard’s increasing reputation, as it has recently secured orders from Dutch owner Mercurius Shipping for stainless steel chemical tankers.
This expansion not only strengthens Candler’s position in the market but also showcases the shipbuilding industry’s ongoing evolution towards more efficient and environmentally friendly vessels. As the maritime sector continues to adapt to regulatory changes and market needs, companies like Candler are leading the way in fleet modernization and sustainability efforts.
