Wärtsilä Gas Solutions, a division of the renowned technology conglomerate Wärtsilä, has secured a pivotal contract to supply the cargo handling system for a groundbreaking LNG bunkering vessel. The vessel, with a capacity of 12,500 cubic meters, is destined for Spanish shipowner Scale Gas, a subsidiary of Enagás, a prominent player in Spain’s gas grid operation.

This milestone project is co-financed under the Support for Sustainable and Digital Transport Programme, an integral component of Spain’s Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan, spearheaded by the Ministry of Transport, Mobility, and Urban Agenda.

The order, which was booked by Wärtsilä in Q1, 2024, has been placed by the esteemed Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering, the yard responsible for constructing the vessel.

In emphasizing Wärtsilä’s esteemed position and expertise in small-scale LNG applications, David Wei, Director of Purchase Department at CIMC SOE, remarked, “We are the leader in this segment for both ship and tank building. Wärtsilä’s experience and track-record is recognized, so we select them for this project.”

Harald Øverland, Sales Manager at Wärtsilä Gas Solutions, highlighted the pivotal role of LNG in steering the industry towards heightened environmental sustainability. “The trend towards LNG represents the industry’s transition to greater environmental sustainability, and we are extremely pleased to support this with modern and reliable systems that optimize overall cargo handling efficiency,” said Øverland.

The delivery of the Wärtsilä equipment to the yard is scheduled for Q2, 2025, promising to set new benchmarks in efficiency, reliability, and environmental stewardship.

Wärtsilä’s longstanding relationship with Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering underscores a shared commitment towards pioneering innovative solutions in maritime transportation. The company has previously supplied cargo handling systems for a myriad of vessels, including LNG, LPG, ethane/ethylene, and multi-gas carriers built by the esteemed yard.
